I believe that we all have the power to wear whatever we want to. It doesn’t have to be ‘cool’ or ‘fashion forward’ as long as its true to you and who you are. This outfit speaks to me – I am messy, loud and occasionally mixed up and that is OK. This outfit reminds me of simpler times, when waking up and throwing on whatever you wanted was cool – before fashionistas took over and started giving us outfits to copy. I remember back in high school (freshman year to be exact) I begged my mom to visit the Birkenstock store so I could get my first pair of mules and while she was hella angry at the cost she indulged me. I remember leaving with the Boston clog and I couldn’t wait to wear them the next day when it wasn’t raining. I wore those babies until they were talking and begging me to stop and finally the time came when I quietly put them away/my mom threw them away and completely forgot about my love for them until a couple years ago when the Birkenstock sandals EXPLODED back on the scene and I along with every other woman started itching to get my hands on a pair and now, here we are.
My Jesus sandals are great. They’re comfortable, mold to my feet and allow me to wear thick socks when my toes aren’t ready for the real world. I have already planned many outfits around these babies and I am excited to get years of usage out of them, to wear them down so bad my husband starts questioning when its time for him to swoop in and throw them away without my knowledge.
How do you feel about the Birkenstock trend? YAY or NAY?
